Research and [Planning Provisional Marks
You need to interview your actors and include video blogs concerning production. I would like to see a timeline of what you are doing and when to evidence your time management. Revisit your posts - have you posted sometihng interesting and are yet to give a comment on? A good approach to research and planning - revisit your blog as a whole entity to make it exceptional. 15/20

Opening Two Minutes-Characters and Costumes
News Reporter-This will be the first character shown in our film. Our character will be a blonde middle-aged female wearing smart clothing. e.g shirt, skirt or a blazer. The news reporter will be speaking to the audience how to stay safe, how to defend themselves and where to go to get help. The news reporter is important in our opening two minutes as she is explaining everything, not only to those in the film but the audience also.
Masked Survivors-During the news report a small clip is going to be shown of people walking around wearing surgical masks. The masked survivors will be wearing casual clothing except from the mask as it is protecting them from the airbourne virus. We want to make the survivors look drained and exhausted to get the emotion across.
Our Survivor- Our survivor will be a young girl and also our main character in our opening two minutes. The young girl's clothes will be torn and ripped in some places, this will indicate that she has been running and hiding for a while. To make her look tired and vunerable to the audience we will apply pale white make up to her face and apply dark make up to her eyes. We don't want to make our main character seem too weak however as she will be headstrong and powerful.
The Zombies-The zombies are also a main focus in our opening two minutes so when they aren't in the scene, the audience will be wondering where they are. The zombies will be wearing ripped and torn clothing also except they will be covered in blood. I have been looking on YouTube for make up tutorials so i could get a better knowledge and so i'm going to be applying the make up also to make the zombies more realistic.

Our Title
This is a short clip with music of how our titles will look.
We decided to make a short clip of how our titles will look once at the end of our film, we made sure that they stand out but we wanted them to fade in and fade out as we believe this would be the best way for our titles to appear.
This is a still image of our title.
We decided on white titles on a black background as red titles didn't stand out and the colours faded into each other. The font fits our film also as it looks as though it's dripping or it has been slashed onto the screen. As our film is a zombie film as well this matches perfectly with our film theme.

Practice Titles
These are our practice titles for our opening two minutes, we've chosen the colours to be black and white, we then thought that putting a bold white font on a black background instead of red would be easier to see. We also decided to stick with a modernised font that is bold but also links to our opening two minutes.

Planning Targets
You need to include pie charts and analysis of results for your questionairre and you need to comment on your storyboard - preferably make an animatic. You need to have a timeline of events for filming and make video-blogs of things you get up to. Everything must be done by the end of term as far as research and planning is concerned and all filming must be in a project timeline.
Questionnaire Results
To carry out my questionnaire I decided to ask my family and people I know in my local area as well as people I go to school with, this gave me a good varied response as I asked five people from each age group and each gender. In total I asked roughly 70 people and this helped me gain a good knowledge of what different age groups now like to watch. I didn't include the other answers as this was the main information I needed to retain for my research.
This is a table showing the overall results for each genre, age and gender. This table has helped us with our research a lot as it has made us realise what the general public want to see other than relying on our own knowledge and stereotypes. I decided to break this table up to view the results a lot more easier for each genre, each genre is now below in a pie chart with the results from each gender and age group.
This pie chart shows the genre romance and its results from the questionnaire. The sections in the pie chart are all quite big and almost even as a lot of people I asked like romance films. A few of the people I questioned however didn't like romance films at all which explains the low scores, the ages and genders of the lower marks was to be expected. What did shock me a little bit was that Males 50+ like watching romance films but then when further questioned it's usually when they watch a film with their wife. This shows that the people around us have an influence to what we watch and why we watch it.
This pie chart shows the genre sci-fi and its results from the questionnaire. This was an interesting category to question people about as some of my interviewees confessed to liking them but not telling their friends as they think that sci-fi films could be classed as weird for people to like. This proved a lot of stereotypes about sci-fi films, I was glad that I did discover this as it helped a lot with my research. If our film was a sci-fi film then I personally don't believe it would do well as it has to have action, adventure and gore involved for people to really want to view it. Males under 12 were the main viewers of these films for me in my questionnaire.
This pie chart shows the genre western and its results from the questionnaire. Quite a few people actually like watching western films which I didn't expect as I personally don't watch them but, once I reviewed the results I was happy that my results showed a general interest in all films. I think the stereotypes for western films would be boring and all the same however my interviewees disagreed. A lot of the males I asked actually love watching western films as the main big sections belonged to Males 12-15, Males 16-18, Males 19-25, Males 26-35 and Males 36-50.
This pie chart shows the genre action and its reults from the questionnaire. As expected the bigger pieces belong to the male gender aged from 16-50 in total. The smallest piece of the pie belongs to the females under 12 which was to be expected also as young girls don't usually go to the cinema to watch action films, they either watch comedies, musicals, romance or horrors. The piece of the pie that I expected to be the smallest piece was the females 50+ however my results beg to differ, more females 50+ that I asked would watch an action film in the cinema-more than the females under 12.
This pie chart shows the genre adventure and its results from the questionnaire. yet again the majority of the bigger pieces belonged to the male gender, however the numbers weren't as high as the action's results. From the pie chart you can see that the numbers are higher in the females under 12 section when in the previous pie chart they were minimal. The females 50+ section is the same as the action genre and so maybe the more mature generations put action and adventure in the same genre, whereas if you look at the results from the younger generations some of the numbers dropped in the adventure genre. This could mean that the younger generations have a better understanding of genre or that the more mature generations do as they can link two together.
This pie chart shows the genre comedy and its results from the questionnaire. Straight away it's clear that all of the sections are near enough the same size with similar numbers, all the numbers are 3 and above for each age and gender meaning that this genre is universal for every age and both genders. I was expecting the numbers in the comedy genre to be fairly high but nearly everyone I asked loved watching comedies, this did make me think about creating a comedy as it might appeal to more people however if it's not done right then no body would watch it. A lot of people are fussy about the humour in comedies and I was afraid that I wouldn't of been able to pull it off.
This pie chart shows the genre horror and its results from the questionnaire. A lot of the bigger sections are of the male gender and of the female gender, what really shows however is how much age is an influence to watch films. The male and female genders both like watching horrors except their ages show that females go to see horrors just as much as the males do, speaking from a personal point of view I know that females like to watch horrors as I have seen loads in and out of the cinema. Horrors results are simialar to the results of the comedy genre, horror is a genre that everyone has a guilty pleasure for and comedy is loved by everyone and so both are going to get high views.
This pie chart shows the genre musical and its results from the questionnaire. The big grey section of the pie chart belongs to the Females 50+, I would say this is quite stereotypical from this age and gender as females aged 50+ are not going to be watching horror films of action films. In the pie chart you can clearly see that a few categories are not on the pie chart as they scored a zero, these categories were Males under 12, Males 12-15, Males 16-18, Males 19-25 and Males 50+. The younger categories I did expect however I thought that maybe the categories Males 19-25 and Males 50+ would have higher number if they saw it with their partner, I was proven wrong which is the main reason we did the questionnaire to get rid of stereotypes and find out facts.
This pie chart shows the genre period drama and its results from the questionnaire. The pie chart is almost divided in two, the largest sections belong to Females 50+, Males 50+, Females 36-50, Males 36-50 and Females 26-35. These were mixed results as the younger generations had a couple views however it was the older generations that scored the highest. The results didn't shock me for the females as female family members aged from 30 like to watch period dramas and so I knew from first hand that the numbers would be significantly high. Both male categories didn't really shock me either as men like to watch old war films, or films they may have watched in their youth which may be classed as old now.
This pie chart shows the genre other and its results from the questionnaire. There is one big section that stands out which belomgs to Males 16-18, this is because of the gangster films they watch which is understandable films. I stuck to the usual film genres but obviously more are created as more and more writers, directors and producers are trying to merge films to reach out to a wider range of people. Spoofs are a good example of this as they have action, adventure, comedy, gore and gore. Spoofs are definitely one of my favourite genres as it reaches every single one. This can be seen in this pie chart clearly as all the sections are big and it's because of a couple age groups or one gender either, it's a mixture of all of them.

Titles Research
This is the title for The Cabin in the Woods I like this title as the writing is big and bold but not central this could create the illusion that all is not what it seems in the film. The writing itself is white but with an eerie red glow around it with a red and black background. The background of the image gives the impression that it's on a wooden texture however when you look closer you see small hexagons making up a wooden like texture. These hexagons are shown in the trailer so the titles link in perfectly.
This is the title for Saw V I like this title also as the background really links in with the props and locations in the film, the rust and blood theme create an unsanitary and massacre effect. As there is rust we know that in the film the locations and props aren't going to be clean, the blood creates the effect of a massacre or lots of people dying as there appears to be a lot. This background is very effective for their film and we could use a similar background as we are including gore, however we thought that going for a cliche background could boost views as it would be something that generations have seen on a lot of horror films.
These are the titles for all the Scream films; the long
bottom image shows the transition from a white font to a red one as this
indicates blood and murder. The second Scream title is similar except it has a
white font and has a red 2 looking like the tile had been slashed; this gives
the title a slasher effect indicating that the type of horror is a slasher
horror. The Scream 3 title makes it look as though the title has been cut open
and the red haze looks like a blood mist, the title is still indicating murder
and the type of horror it is; a slasher horror. The final Scream title, Scream
4 has still got the colour red involved as we will know from all the previous
films what type of film this is, however for this film you can see how advanced
technology has got as the font looks almost 3D and the famous Scream mask is in
the background. I like all the titles as
they are fitting for that particular film, I do however like Scream 4’s title
the best as its more subtle and they have used more creativity, I also like how
they used the red 4 as the A also. Jasmine and I could do something similar to
this for our opening two minutes however we have chosen to do it quite similar
to the first Scream without the colour change.
This is the opening title for the zombie film Shaun of the Dead. These titles are placed in a clever place as the group of teenagers are walking towards the 3D effect title. I do like this title however as the film is a comedy it does show as it is obvious but it stand out greatly. Jasmine and i have also chosen to make our titles more like an old fashioned horror, very simple and clichéd but everyone would remember it.
The titles for the film Paranormal Activity are ideally what Jasmine and I are hoping to create our opening titles like as it is simple yet effective. A plain title isn't giving away what the film entails also, and seeing as Jasmine and I both like horror films old and new, we are certain that this title is the one we mostly look at for inspiration. What i like about this title also is that instead of having the title completely white, there is a tinge of neon green/blue this gives it a ghost/alien effect.

Storyboard Script
1st shot-(BBC news theme song) A TV news reporter
appears on a TV screen relaying the news about a deadly virus. ‘News of the deadly virus has spread to
other countries, we urge you to have weapons at the ready and if possible try
and get to Central London where all of the resources are available.’
2nd shot- We are then shown a small clip of people
are walking down a road with surgical masks over their faces.
3rd shot- The news reporter comes back onto the
screen saying ‘This news broadcast is
under threat of being cut off by the infected; we are sorry fellow Britons you
are on your own.’
4th shot- The TV screen then flicks to white
noise, showing that the signal has been cut.
5th shot- We see a girls feet walking through a
woods. (The sound of the leaves rustling are enhanced for tension)
6th shot- There is a short shot of where the girl
has just walked.
7th shot- An infected person then walks past the
screen tracing her footsteps.
8th shot- We then see a close up of the girl’s
face, she is looking frightened and has cuts and bruises on her face. Her
breathing is heavy and shaky.
9th shot- We then see what she is looking at
which is an empty landscape, the shot makes her look paranoid.
10th shot- We then see a close up of an infected
person’s mouth hiding behind a branch.
11th shot- We see an extreme close up of an
infected character’s eyes, the audience will know that he’s been watching her.
12th shot-The girl at this point is still walking
and has her back to the camera.
13th shot- A branch snaps (enhance sound) the
girl then whips her head round to where the noise came from.
14th shot- The girl just starts sprinting through
the woods and the audience know that she has seen the infected character
watching her.
15th shot- Jump cuts from girl running and the
infected running using fast pace editing to create a chase scene effect.
16th shot-We see the girl run into another
infected character. (screen goes suddenly black)
17th shot- The titles then pop up onto the screen
reading ‘NO TOMORROW’
Opening Two Minutes Brief
Jasmine and I have roughly planned out our opening two minutes, we decided to talk it through and be 100% sure of what we were doing before we did our storyboard to make it as accurate as possible.
The first scene will be of a news reporter talking to the audience about a 'deadly virus' that has spread throughout Britain. The news reporter will be telling the audience of the news broadcast about a 'safe place' for the survivors to go to, she/he will have a pained expression on their face as if they are trying to keep it together but struggling. Our next scene will show our main character the 'survivor' walking through the woods alone and looking paranoid. Our character will then keep looking around them as the sound of branches snapping and leaves rustling are in the background implying that they are being followed by someone/something. Our character will then start to quicken their pace, after a short space of time the audience will see an infected person's feet tracing their footsteps. The next shot will be a mid shot of our character from the back, this shot will make it look as if they are being watched from behind with the sound of leaves rustling, this should create an eerie ethos and increase the suspension. The next shot would be the main character turning around and running through the woods, this scene will then be jump cut from the main character and the infected running. Our opening two minutes will then finish when the character either runs into a tree or into another infected being and the screen suddenly goes black and the title of our opening two minutes pops up onto the screen. I believe that this is a good idea to how a film like this should start, I believe this because the audience don't know a lot and so they will anticipate to continue watching, I feel as if we give away just the right amount during our opening two minutes.

Zombie Prop Research-Fake Blood
As our chosen film genre is zombie horror fake blood is a must in our opening two minutes, while researching we discovered that there are a lot of different types of fake blood.
Even though all of these products would work perfectly, the products are quite expensive and so Jasmine and I did some research for cheaper alternatives. Some of these products are also hard to come across and so the research included using ordinary ingredients that you can find in a kitchen. All of this research has proved extremely helpful as we're using a lot of fake blood in our opening two minutes we have to ensure that the products we're using are safe, if we were to put fake blood around the actors mouth we would have to make sure that it is harmless.

Zombie Research-Locations
When researching horror films I noticed that horror films are set in any place possible however they range from densely populated areas (Neighbourhoods, Villages, Towns, Cities) to rural settings (American open roads, Fields, Deserts, Small country lanes). Viruses are easily spread and so having our horror set in a densely populated area could mean that there would be no survivors, these areas are also difficult to hide in as they are so built up, everybody knows all the secret hideouts. We decided to subvert to the normal conventions and have the survivors try to survive in the woods, this gives them a wide space but also would test their survival. Being in woods would also confuse a lot of people as it all looks the same, this is the effect we're looking for. We have already found our wooded area to film in and it is near houses which is perfect as we don't want the character completely cut off from all contact. The woods are generally hard to hide in as the infected have a good sense of smell, they would be able to detect our uninfected characters.
As you can see from the two different images, the mass of the infected appear to be in the city however in rural settings there's only so much the human body can take. We are trying to make our opening two minutes situation as realistic and believable as possible to attract our audience.

Zombie Research-Make-up
This is a list of zombie make up tutorials that we have selected to try and apply on our actors/actresses, we chose these as they relate to our theme perfectly. These are step by step guides to how to make our wounds as realistic as possible, we also managed to find less expensive substitutions which has helped us a lot.
In this YouTube video we are shown how to create what looks like an infected zombie bite, the girl in her video tells us about her past experience using the specialist make-up and so we know that what she is using is safe and that this will work. In the video she tells us what each product is so we can go out and purchase them if we wish. This video is step by step and incredibly easy to follow, as most of her products were specialist ones which cost a lot and are quite rare to find in shops, Jasmine and I tried to find videos where they used everyday items.
In this YouTube video we are shown how to create and open wound effect on our hands, this lady however uses eyelash glue instead of latex as eyelash glue has latex in. She also shows us how to use our tendons in our hands to create this look which I found interesting. This lady also used toilet paper to build up the layers and normal body paint that you can purchase anywhere. This really helped Jasmine and I to see what we could achieve without having to buy all the expensive products.
In this YouTube video we are shown how to create a rotting and infected zombie bite, in this video the girl uses everyday items like toilet paper and PVA glue. This video really helped Jasmine and I realise what effects we could with simple items and it gave us a lot of inspiration to be able to apply it to our actors/actresses in our opening two minutes.
In this YouTube video we are shown how to create an infected hand again except with more blood. The best thing about the videos containing this guy are that he explains thoroughly about all of the products including lenses, and the dos and don'ts of doing this particular make-up on oneself or another person. He shows all of the products also so then those who would like to this can, for some of the items he mentions some alternatives in case you cannot either afford them or find them.
In this YouTube video we're shown how to make half of your face seem infected, this guy also talks about the dos and don'ts again and adds additional info on screen as well as talking about it. The steps are easy to follow also again so it doesn't cut out chunks ensuring we aren't lost halfway through. I learnt some new techniques also from this video.
In this YouTube video we're shown how to create contouring on the collar bones and neck to make the actor look malnourished. The video has very simple steps to follow also allowing us to take her ideas and apply them to our actors. We are also shown how to make an actors' face gaunt just using make-up. This tutorial was a massive help with applying make-up to our actors as she really explained it and showed us exactly what to do.
In this YouTube video we're shown how to apply half a mask and then contour and add colouring to it. This was a good technique to learn if we couldn't do it with make-up. Another really good part of this video is when she shows us how to make a fake collar bone using a plastic knife, she puts PVA glue and tissue paper on her collar bone area which is to then be used as the exposed collar bone. This video helped me a lot as it made me realise how much is possible with make-up.

Zombie Research-Acting Like a Zombie
This first clip is from the zombie comedy Shaun of the Dead, in the clip you can see them trying to impersonate a zombie by groaning, walking slowly and looking blank. Once we see them walking alongside the 'zombies' they seem to be able to fool them indicating to the audience that the zombies are not intelligent at all and are easily fooled. None of the characters speak however as the zombies can't, basic communication would give them away.
This second clip is a 'how to' about zombies and how to act like them. The video shows how to look and act like a zombie to survive a zombie apocalypse, this video includes everything that the first clip has except it's more like a survival/acting guide which is why I chose it.
Zombie Research Moodboard- Make-up and Costume
This is my moodboard on make-up and costume, I chose these images as I thought they best represented the 'Zombie' look. The costumes are mainly normal clothes as they got bit when doing their normal routine, however their clothes are ripped and are stained with blood and so this gave us more options for the costumes. The make-up on the zombies makes them look diseased and infectious, the eyes on the zombies are usually red and sore, contacts could be used to make the actors/actresses eyes look sore.

Comparable Profile-28 days later
28 Days Later is a zombie horror film which is in the same genre as our film idea, this is why I chose to look at its comparable profile to see what gender preferred this film, what age and also what class. From the comparable profile I can see that most popular age range for this type of film were 15-24 year olds (41%), the second largest was the age range 25-24 (35%) I personally this is because of the gore content and the language involved. As expected the amount of males who watched this film is higher than the females (56%) however the amount of female views were a lot higher than I had originally expected (44%), this research helped me realise that we needed to appeal to both genders a lot more to get more females to watch our zombie horror. The amount of people from a specific class was high in the lower middle class, I would say this is about right for the type of film it is as those in the high class category wouldn't necessarily watch a film like this. I would say that those in a high class category would watch period dramas and maybe go to theatres and watch operas and live performances. From all this research I can now see that our target audience will be for lower middle class males and females aged from 15-24,
Chosen Institution-Twisted Pictures
We have chosen Twisted Pictures as our film institution. We have chosen them as they are used a lot within the horror genre, and as this is the genre our film is included in then it fits perfectly. Twisted Pictures are famously known for being involved with the SAW series and Dead Silence they also were involved with the film Tortured. All of these films have been successful especially the SAW series and so using Twisted Pictures; a trusted horror representative we know that an audience would give our film a chance.
Film Institutions-Lionsgate
Lionsgate (Lions Gate Entertainment Corporation) is a North American entertainment company. Lionsgate produce a mixture of films ranging between action and adventure to horror films. Their most popular films are 'The Cabin in the Woods', 'The Hunger Games', 'The Expendables', 'You're Next', 'The Possession' and 'SAW 3D'. As Lionsgate have a good reputation with the horror genre already they would be a good institution for us to use for our opening two minutes.
Film Institutions-Twisted Pictures
Twisted Pictures is an American independent production company mainly specializing in horror films. Twisted Pictures are best known for producing the SAW film series. Twisted Pictures have produced big box office films such as SAW, Dead Silence and the Texas Chainsaw 3D. As Twisted Pictures have produced these really well known horror films, they are a perfect institution for us to use as they already have a good horror reputation.
Film Institutions-Warner Bros.
Warner Bros. (Warner Bros. Entertainment) is a well known American producer of film, TV and music. Warner Bros. do not produce many if not any horror films as they mainly produce action and adventure films such as 'Man of Steel', 'The Dark Knight Rises' and 'Inception'. As we are doing a horror film we think it would be best for an institution well known for their horror films as the audience look at the institution first to guess the quality of the film first.
Film Institutions-Paramount
Paramount (Paramount Pictures Corporation) is a film and TV production and distribution studio, Paramount is consistently ranked as one of the top-grossing film studios. Paramount aren't known entirely for horror but have distributed two films that are in the horror genre 'Paranormal Activity' and 'Friday the 13th'. Paramount also distribute action films such as 'G.I. Joe', 'Jackass' and 'Transformers'. As Paramount have distributed major horror films this makes them one of our top choices for an institution to represent our opening two minutes, especially as Paramount distributed 'World War Z' which is a zombie horror film.
Film Institutions-Dreamworks
DreamWorks is a California film studio which develops, produces and distributes films, games and TV programmes. DreamWorks' films are marketed and distributed by The Walt Disney Studios or under its Touchstone Pictures label. DreamWorks are well known for developing and producing children's animation films such as Shrek, Kung Fu Panda, Shark Tale, Antz and Madagascar. All of the mentioned films are well known to any generation as DreamWorks animations which are funny and family-friendly. As our theme contains a lot of gore DreamWorks wouldn't be appropriate to use as our institution.
